April 18, 2001 Canes Edge Devils 3-2 OT
The Carolina Hurricanes won a close game 4 in
overtime, 3-2. The two regulation Hurricanes goals and the
first Devils goal came on the power play. Before this
game, neither team had a power play goal in the series.
The Devils second goal, to tie the game at 2 in the
third period, was scored by Petr Sykora, Short Handed.
Rod Brind'Amour scored the game winning goal 46
seconds into overtime.
Unlike the previous game, the Devils took more
penalties (5 more) than the Hurricanes did. Their lack
of discipline may have cost them the game.
The Hurricanes had only 10 shots in the first
periods of the first three games combined -- but in the
first twenty minutes of this game, they got 10.. The
Devils let too many shots get through to Brodeur in game 4.
Carolina also dominated faceoffs, winning 40 of 61.
Devils defenseman Scott Niedermayer suffered
a knee injury in the third period. The extent of the
injury is not yet known.
