October 20, 2001 Devils Beat Senators 3-2
The New Jersey Devils got their second win of the season
by defeating the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Saturday, October 20, 2001.
Jason Arnott scored early - only 1:00 in, to give the
Devils the early lead. His goal was assisted by Patrik Elias and
Petr Sykora.
Ex-Islander Zdeno Chara tied the game by beating Brodeur
at 8:30.
The first period ended with a 1-1 tie.   The Senators
outshot the Devils 6-4 in the period.
Patrik Elias got an unassisted goal at 1:14 to give the
Devils a 2-1 lead.
Scott Niedermayer got his first goal of the season at
9:14 to give the Devils a 3-1 lead. Sergei Brylin got an assist
on the goal.
The second period ended with the Devils leading 3-1. The
Devils outshot the Senators 11-4 in the period.
Arvedson scored for Ottawa at 4:33 to cut the Devils lead
to one goal.
The game ended with the Devils victorious - 3-2 final
score. The Devils were outshot 13-3 in the third period, and
23-18 in the game. Both teams were unsuccessful on the power-
play; Ottawa was 0-3 and the Devils were 0-2.
Tommy Albelin and Pierre Dagenais were healthy scratches
as Jim Mckenzie and Mike Commodore were in the lineup.
