November 01, 2001 Devils Beat Yotes 5-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Phoenix Coyotes by
a score of 5-2 at home on Thursday, November 1, 2001.
Patrik Elias scored for the Devils at 8:59 to give the
Devils a 1-0 lead. Brian Rafalski and Scott Stevens got assists
on the goal.
Andreas Solomonsson got his first NHL goal at 12:16 on
the power-play to increase the Devils lead to 2-0. Sergei Brylin
and Randy McKay got assists on the goal.
Sergei Nemchinov beat Esche at 12:42, just 26 seconds
after Solomonsson's goal to give the Devils a 3-0 lead. The goal
was Nemchinov's first of the season and was assisted by Jay Pandolfo and
John Madden.
The first period ended with the Devils leading 3-0.
The Devils outshot the Coyotes 16-7 in the first period.
Patrik Elias got his second goal of the game at 7:44 of
the second period on the power-play to increase the Devils lead to
4-0. Bobby Holik and Brian Rafalski got assists on Elias's
seventh goal of the season.
Randy McKay got his first goal of the season at 13:42
to give the Devils a 5-0 lead. Scott Gomez and Sergei Brylin got
assists on the goal.
Handzus scored for the Coyotes at 17:43 on the power-play
to Cut the Devils lead to 5-1.
The second period ended with the Devils leading 5-1.
Phoenix outshot the Devils 10-8 in the period.
Vaananen scored for Phoenix at 9:32 of the third period, to
cut the Devils lead to 3 goals.
The game ended with the Devils winning 5-2. New
Jersey outshot Phoenix 8-7 in the third period, and 32-24 in the game.
The Devils were 2-3 on the power-play and the Coyotes were 1-2
with the man advantage.
This win means the Devils now have a 6 game winning
streak.
Jim McKenzie and Ken Daneyko were healthy scratches for
the Devils.
