December 05, 2001 Devs Beat Canadiens 2-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Canadiens 2-1 in
Montreal on Wednesday, December 5, 2001.
Patrik Elias took a nice pass from Petr Sykora and put
the puck past Theodore at 8:32 of the first period to give the Devils
a 1-0 lead. Scott Stevens also got an assist (his 300th as a
Devil) on Elias's 14th goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the
Canadiens, 1-0. The Devils outshot the Canadiens 8-7 in the
period.
Mike Ribeiro beat Martin Brodeur, on the power-play at
16:03 of the second period to tie the game, 1-1.
Andrei Zyuzin suffered a shoulder injury about half way
through the second period - He did not return in the period.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1.
New Jersey outshot Montreal 9-7 in the period.

Just 15 seconds into the second period, Brian Rafalski
fired a shot on goal past Theodore. Patrik Elias got the only
assist on Rafalski's third goal of the season. The goal gave
the Devils a 2-1 lead.
The third period ended with the Devils winning 2-1.
The Devils outshot the Canadiens 28-27 in the game.
Sergei Nemchinov and Ken Daneyko were healthy scratches
for the Devils.
