Predators Edge Devils, 4-3
    The New Jersey Devils lost to the Nashville Predators at home, 4-3, on Thursday, January 3, 2002.
    Martin Erat beat Brodeur at 3:05 of the first period, with the Predators first shot of the game.   The goal gave Nashville an early 1-0 lead.
    Denis Arkhipov scored for Nashville at 4:41 to give the Predators a 2-0 lead.
    Brian Gionta got his first NHL goal at 15:36 of the first period to cut the Predators lead to 2-1.   The goal was assisted by Scott Gomez and Scott Niedermayer.
    The first period ended with the Predators leading the Devils 2-1.   The Devils outshot the Predators 12-11 in the period.
    Petr Tenkrat beat Martin Brodeur at 4:00 of the second period to give Nashville a 3-1 lead.
    With just 37 seconds left in the second period, Scott Hartnell scored to give the Predators a 4-1 lead.
    The second period ended with Nashville a 4-1 lead.   The Predators outshot the Devils 12-5 in the period.
    Petr Sykora got the Devils to within two goals at 5:56 of the third period.   Patrik Elias and Jason Arnott got assists on Sykora's 8th goal of the season.
    Scott Gomez scored at 10:36 of the third period to cut the Predators lead to 4-3.   Gomez's 4th goal of the season was assisted by Brian Rafalski and Scott Stevens.
    The game ended with the Predators winning, 4-3.   The Devils outshot the Predators 16-4 in the third period, and 33-27 in the game.
