The New Jersey Devils were defeated by the Lightning 3-2
in Tampa Bay, Monday, January 21, 2002.
2:27 into the first period, Christian Berglund got his
second career NHL goal to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Scott
Gomez and Valeri Kamensky got assists on the goal.
Vincent Lecavalier put the puck into an empty net (Brodeur
was out to block another shot) at 9:51 to tie the game, 1-1.
Ben Clymer scored for the Lightning at 17:01 to give them
a 2-1 lead. Martin St. Louis beat Brodeur just 1:29 later.
The first period ended with the Lightning leading the
Devils, 3-1. The Devils outshot the Lightning, 11-8 in the

period, but there was no scoring by either team. The period ended
with Tampa Bay leading New Jersey, 3-1. The Devils outshot the
Lightning 8-7 in the period.
Sergei Brylin got the Devils back within one goal at
13:54 of the third period. Valeri Kamensky and Sergei Nemchinov got
assists on Brylin's 7th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Lightning 14-2 in the period and
33-17 in the game.
