February 26, 2002Devils Beat Rangers 4-3
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Rangers 4-3 in New
York, Tuesday, February 26, 2002.
Scott Gomez gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead by beating
Dan Blackburn at 3:34 of the first period. Gomez's 6th goal of
the season was assisted by Sergei Brylin and Ken Daneyko.
Scott Niedermayer got his 8th goal of the season at 4:19
of the first period. Niedermayer's goal which gave the Devils a
2-0 lead was assisted by Sergei Brylin and Bobby Holik.
Mikael Samuelsson beat Brodeur at 8:26 of the first period
- shorthanded - to cut the Devils lead to 2-1.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers
by a score of 2-1. The Devils outshot the Rangers 14-6 in the
Eric Lindros scored on the power-play for the Rangers at
5:54 of the second period to tie the game, 2-2.
Theo Fleury beat Martin Brodeur at 16:55 of the second
period to give the Rangers a 3-2 lead.
The second period ended with the Rangers leading the Devils,
3-2. The Rangers outshot the Devils 9-3 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo got his 4th goal of the season at 6:32 of the
third period to tie the game, 3-3. Valeri Kamensky and Scott Stevens
got assists on the goal.
Scott Gomez scored his second goal of the game at 10:36 of
the third period to give the Devils a 4-3 lead. Bobby Holik got
the assist on the goal.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 4-3. The
Devils outshot the Rangers 27-24 in the game.
