March 05, 2002 Coyotes Beat Devils 4-1
The New Jersey Devils were defeated by the Coyotes in
Phoenix, 4-1 on Tuesday, March 5, 2002.
Landon Wilson beat John Vanbiesbrouck at 3:12 of the first
period to give the Coyotes an early 1-0 lead.
Ladislav Nagy scored for the Coyotes at 10:58 of the first
period, giving them a 2-0 lead.
The first period ended with the Coyotes leading the Devils,
2-0. The Devils were outshot 8-3 by the Coyotes.
There was no scoring in the second period, though the Devils
had much better opportunities in this period. The Devils outshot
the Coyotes 13-9 in the period.
Scott Gomez got the Devils back into the game at 5:25 of the
third period by scoring his 9th goal of the season. The goal that
cut the Coyotes lead in half was assisted by Sergei Brylin and Ken Daneyko.
Drake Berehowsky got the Coyotes their second two goal lead
of the game at 7:53 of the third period.
Mike Johnson scored an empty net goal with just 44 seconds
left in the game to give the Coyotes a 4-1 lead.
The game ended with the Coyotes winning by a score of 4-1.
The Devils outshot the Coyotes 11-8 in the third period and 27-25
in the game.
