March 13, 2002 Devils Beat Isles 3-2
The New Jersey Devils defeated the New York Islanders, 3-2
at home on Wednesday, March 13, 2002.
Brian Gionta got the Devils on the board early with a
fantastic deflection 9:25 of the first period. Jay Pandolfo shot
the puck well wide of the net, but Gionta made a perfect deflection past
Osgood.
Jim McKenzie gave the Devils a 2-0 lead at 10:45 of the
first period by deflecting a Brian Rafalski shot on the power-play.
Petr Sykora also got an assist on McKenzie's 3rd goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders
2-0. The Devils outshot the Islanders 8-5 in the period.
Sergei Brylin got his 11th goal of the season at 5:31 if the
second period to give the Devils a 3-0 lead. Scott Gomez and Brian
Rafalski got assists on the goal.
Mike Peca beat Brodeur at 8:56 of the second period to cut
the Devils lead to 3-1. Just 32 seconds after the Peca goal, Oleg
Kvasha cut the Devils lead to 3-2.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders
3-2. The Devils outshot the Islanders 11-10 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period. The game
ended with the Devils winning, 3-2. The Devils outshot the Islanders
22-20 in the game.
Scott Stevens played in his 1500th game tonight, only the
8th player in NHL history to achieve that feat.
