March 23, 2002 Hurricanes Beat Devils 4-2
The New Jersey Devils were defeated at home 4-2, by the
Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, March 23, 2002.
Josef Vasicek beat Martin Brodeur at 2:27 of the first
period to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead.
Andreas Salomonsson tied the game at 8:46 by beating Irbe
with a nice wrist shot. Salomonsson's 3rd goal of the season was
unassisted.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Devils outshot the Hurricanes 8-7.
Bobby Holik beat Irbe just 26 seconds into the second
period to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Holik's 21st goal was assisted
by Sergei Brylin and Scott Stevens.
Kevyn Adams scored for the Hurricanes at 2:23 to tie the
game, 2-2.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The
shots were 6-6 in the second.
Bobby Holik was tossed from the game at 11:18 of the third
period - he was assessed a 10 minute 'attempt to injure' match penalty that
will be reviewed by the league.
Sean Hill beat Brodeur at 15:45 of the third period, on the
power-play to give the Hurricanes a 3-2 lead.
Jeff O'Neill got an empty-net goal with 41 seconds left in
regulation time to seal the win for the Hurricanes.
The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-2.
The Devils outshot the Hurricanes 11-7 in the third period, and
25-20 in the game.
