gave the Devils a 1-0 lead.
Brad Ference blatantly and viciously cross-checked Jim
McKenzie straight to the mouth at the 7:00 mark of the second period.
Ference was assesed a double-minor penalty - though his stick-work was

Just 15 seconds into the resulting Devils four-minute

Devils outshot the Panthers 12-10 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored for the Devils just 18 seconds
into the third period. Langenbrunner's 12th goal of the season (his

effects of the flu.
With Bobby Holik out of the lineup, Sergei Brylin wore an
'A' (Alternate Captain) for the Devils.

since April 9, 1997.
