November 05, 2002 Game 10: Devils Burned by Flames 3-2
The New Jersey Devils were defeated by the Calgary Flames
in New Jersey on Tuesday, November 5, 2002.
Mike Danton gave the Devils a 1-0 lead at 11:29 of the
first period by beating Flames goaltender Jamie McLennan with a nice
wrist shot. Jim McKenzie and Turner Stevenson got assists on
Danton's second goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Flames,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Flames 5-4 in the period, but were
unable to capitalize on the only power-play of the period.
The Flames tied the game at 8:13 of the second period
when Matthias Johansson put the puck past Brodeur. Stephane
Yelle gave the Flames a 2-1 lead at 16:18 of the second.
Colin White tied the game just 23 seconds after Yelle's
goal. White's second goal of the season was unassisted.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2.
Calgary outshot New Jersey 12-8 in the period.
Chris Drury beat Brodeur with a top-shelf backhand shot
at 3:21 of the third period to give the Flames a 3-2 lead.
The Devils had numerous good chances to even the score,
playing the final minutes of the game almost entirely in the Flames
zone. They were however, unable to put the puck past McLennan,
who played his third straight game, with Roman Turek injured.
The game ended with the Flames defeating the Devils,
3-2. The Devils outshot the Flames 19-5 in the period and
32-21 in the game.
The Flames now lead the lifetime series, 25-13-7.
The game was the 100th Turner Stevenson played with the
Devils.
Scott Gomez was out of the lineup with a groin pull,
Stephen Guolla returned to the lineup to take his place, but left
early in the third period. Defenseman Tommy Albelin was a
healthy scratch.
