November 29, 2002 Game 20: Devils Beat Predators 2-1 in Nashville
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Predators, 2-1 in
Nashville on Friday, November 29, 2002. Corey Schwab got his
first win, in his second start, of the season. For Schwab, a 1990
Devils draft pick, it was also his first win in a New Jersey uniform.
Oleg Tverdovsky put the puck past Corey Schwab at 11:10 of
the first period. His poor attempt to clear the puck from the front
of the net, resulted in the Predators having a 1-0 lead. Vladimir
Orszagh was credited with the goal.
Scott Gomez roofed the puck over Predator goaltender, Tomas
Vokun at 15:16 of the first period to tie the game, 1-1. Patrik
Elias got the only assist on Gomez's 3rd goal of the season.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Predators outshot the Devils 12-9 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo got his 2nd goal of the season at 16:30 of the
second period to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Pandolfo's goal was
assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner.
The second period ended with the Devils leading Nashville,
2-1. The Predators outshot the Devils 7-4 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period, the game ended with
the Devils winning, 2-1. The Devils were outshot 10-2 in the period
and 29-15 in the game.
The Devils now lead the lifetime series, 5-3-0-0 and are
4-0-0-0 in Nashville. Last season, the teams split the series,
1-1-0-0.
With the Devils playing back-to-back games, Corey Schwab
guarded the net for the Devils.
Jamie Langenbrunner returned to the lineup after missing four
games with pneumonia. Mike Danton expelled from the team, with Lou
Lamoriello basically saying that he'll never wear a Devils uniform again
Tommy Albelin was a healthy scratch..
