December 18, 2002 Game 29: Senators Beat Devils 3-0!
The New Jersey Devils were defeated 3-0 at home by the Ottawa
Senators on Wednesday, December 18, 2002.
Shaun Van Allen gave the Senators an early 1-0 lead just 1:36
into the first period.
Radek Bonk made it 2-0 Senators at 12:26 of the first period.
He came off the bench and went undefended straight to the net - he took
a pass and put the puck past Brodeur.
The first period ended with the Senators leading the Devils,
2-0. The Senators outshot the Devils 10-8 in the period.
The second period ended with the score still 2-0 Senators.
The Senators outshot the Devils, 12-9 in the period.
Radek Bonk got an empty net goal with 39 seconds left in the game
to seal the win for the Senators.
The game ended with the Senators shutting out the Devils, 3-0.
The Devils outshot the Senators 10-3 in the third period, and 27-25 in
the game.
The two teams last met on Saturday in Ottawa when the Senators
pulled out a 4-3 overtime win.
The Devils now lead the lifetime series, 25-12-5-0. The
Senators now lead the season series, 2-1-0-0. The teams will meet again
in February in New Jersey.
Brian Rafalski returned to the lineup after missing 3 games with
a rib injury.
Tommy Albelin (healthy) and Brian Gionta (ankle) were scratches
for the Devils.
