December 28, 2002 Game 34: Devils Sink Capitals, 2-1 in OT
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Washington Capitals, 2-1 in
overtime in New Jersey on Saturday, December 28, 2002.
Here are a few of MY PICTURES
FROM THE GAME.
Kip Miller put the puck past Brodeur at 14:44 of the first period
to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead. The goal was questionable, but reviewed
and ruled good.
The first period ended with the Capitals leading the Devils 1-0,
even though they were outshot by the Devils, 14-4.
Christian Berglund tied the game at 6:37 of the second period.
Berglund's 3rd goal of the season was assisted by Joe Nieuwendyk and
Colin White.
Turner Stevenson fought Alex Henry at 13:59 of the second.
Turner Stevenson won the close fight, getting the takedown at the fights'
conclusion.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Devils outshot the Caps 9-7 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period. The Devils
outshot the Capitals 10-3 in the period.
Scott Niedermayer won the game with 50 seconds remaining in the
overtime period on the power-play. Niedermayer's 6th goal of the season
was assisted by Patrik Elias.
The Devils outshot the Capitals 7-1 in the overtime and 40-15 in
the game.
The game was the second half of a back-to-back home-and-home
series, with the first half a 3-2 Capitals win in Washington DC on
Friday.
Martin Brodeur and Olaf Kolzig started both games.
Jim McKenzie and Tommy Albelin were healthy scratches for the
Devils.
