January 25, 2003 Game 48: Devils Fall to Kings: 2-1 in Overtime
The New Jersey Devils were defeated 2-1 in Los Angeles in
overtime on Saturday, January 25, 2003.
There were no goals scored in the first period. The Kings
outshot the Devils 12-5 in the period.
Derek Armstrong broke the scoreless tie at 11:20 of the second
period, on the power-play - his goal gave the Kings a 1-0 lead.
The second period ended with the Kings leading the Devils, 1-0.
The Devils outshot the Kings, 12-10 in the period.
Scott Gomez slapped the puck past Potvin at 6:45 of the third
period to tie the game, 1-1. Scott Niedermayer and Mike Rupp assisted on
Gomez's 7th goal of the season.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 1-1. The Devils
outshot the Kings, 16-9 in the third period.
Zigmund Palffy won the game at the 3:50 mark in overtime.
Jeff Friesen missed the game with the flu, Christian Berglund
took his spot in the lineup.
The game was the only meeting between the two teams this
season. The Kings won the only matchup last season, 3-2. The
Kings lead the lifetime series, 22-21-3-0.
