February 07, 2003 Game 53: Thrashers Defeat Devils: 4-2
The New Jersey Devils were defeated, 4-2 at home by the Atlanta
Thrashers on Friday, February 7, 2003.
Dan Snyder smacked the puck past Brodeur at 14:33 of the first
period to give the Thrashers a 1-0 lead.
Ilya Kovulchuk blasted the puck through Brodeur at 17:53 to give
the Thrashers a 2-0 lead.
The first period ended with the Thrashers leading the Devils,
2-0. The Devils outshot Atlanta 10-7 in the period.
Stephen Guolla put the puck past Dafoe at 3:13 of the second
period to cut the Thrashers lead to one goal. Christian Berglund and Jim
McKenzie assisted on Guolla's 2nd goal of the season.
Patrick Elias tied the game on the power-play at 10:02 of the
second period. Scott Niedermayer and John Madden assisted on Elias's
16th goal of the season.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The
Thrashers outshot the Devils 7-6 in the period.
Kovalchuk had the benefit of a crazy bounce off the boards and
buried the puck, which Brodeur was out to play the puck. Kovalchuk's
second goal of the game came at 13:04 of the third, on the power-play.
Kozlov beat Brodeur with a nice shot just 15 seconds after
Kovalchuk's goal to give the Thrashers a 2 goal lead.
The game ended with the Thrashers winning, 4-2. The Devils
outshot Atlanta 12-5 in the third period and 28-19 in the game.
Stephen Guolla was back in the Devils lineup after being out
since November after back surgery. The game was the 200th of his NHL
career.
