February 11, 2003 Game 55: Avalanche Beat Devils, 3-1
The New Jersey Devils were defeated, 3-1, by the Avalanche in
Colorado on Tuesday, February 11, 2003.
Alex Tanguay slapped the puck into an empty net after Brodeur was
drawn out at 7:51 of the first period.
The first period ended with the Avalanche leading the Devils,
1-0. The Devils outshot Colorado 16-3 in the period.
Derek Morris made it 2-0 at 10:12 of the second period on the
power-play.
The second period ended with Colorado leading the Devils, 2-0.
The Avs outshot the Devils 11-4 in the period.
Joe Nieuwendyk deflected a shot from Brian Rafalski at 11:54 of
the third period on the power-play to get the Devils within one goal of
Colorado. Rafalski got the only assist on Nieuwendyk's 11th goal of the
season.
Milan Hejduk gave the Avalanche a 3-1 lead at 15:10, by lifting
the puck over Brodeur.
Jiri Bicek ruined the Devils chances of getting back into the
game in the final minutes. He checked Rob Blake from behind and knocked
him into Patrik Roy with 3:22 remaining in regulation time. He was
assessed a 5:00 major penalty for checking from behind, and a game
misconduct.
The game ended with the Avalanche defeating the Devils, 3-1.
The Devils outshot the Avalanche 13-4 in the third and 33-18 in the
game.
