March 04, 2003 Game 65: Wild Beat Devils, 3-2
The New Jersey Devils were defeated, 3-2 by the Wild in Minnesota
on Tuesday, March 3, 2003.
Andrew Brunette beat Martin Brodeur at 3:09 of the first period
to give the Wild an early 1-0 lead. Just 2:38 later ex-Devil Andrei
Zyuzin put the puck past Brodeur to make it 2-0.
The first period ended with Minnesota leading, 2-0. The
Devils outshot the Wild 7-5 in the period.
John Madden backhanded the puck past Fernandez at 12:23 of the
second period to cut the Wild's lead to one goal. Madden's 17th goal of
the season was assisted by Scott Niedermayer and Patrik Elias.
Jeff Friesen tied the game just 19 seconds after Madden's goal.
Friesen's 20th goal of the season was assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner
and Joe Nieuwendyk.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The
Devils outshot the Wild 15-11 in the period.
Willie Mitchell, another ex-Devil, got on the board at 15:10 of
the third period to give the Wild a 3-0 lead.
The game ended with the Wild winning 3-2 over the Devils - the
Wild's first NHL win over New Jersey. The Devils outshot the Wild 9-8 in
the third period and 31-24 in the game.
