March 13, 2003Game 69: Bruins Defeat Devils: 4-3
The New Jersey Devils fell to the Bruins, 4-3 in Boston on
Thursday, March 13, 2003.
There was no scoring in the first period, the Devils outshot the
Bruins 10-9 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner gave the Devils a 1-0 lead by blasting the
puck past Jeff Hackett, 4:11 into the second period. Richard Smehlik
got the only assist on Langenbrunner's 20th goal of the season.
Martin Lapointe deflected the puck past Brodeur just 34 seconds
after the Langenbrunner goal to tie the game, 1-1.
Lapointe beat Brodeur again at 8:40 tove give Boston a 2-1
lead. 38 seconds after Lapointe's 2nd goal of the game Mike Knuble
scored to increase the Bruins lead.
Lapointe recorded his 3rd goal of the game at the 10:00 mark of
the second period. Prior to this game, Lapointe had a total of 2 goals
on the season.
Patrik Elias took his own rebound at 12:50 of the second period
to get the Devils back within two goals of the Bruins. Elias's 19th goal
of the season was assisted by Scott Gomez.
Scott Gomez made it a one goal game with a power-play goal at
16:21 of the second. Grant Marshall got the only assist on Gomez's 11th
goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Bruins leading the Devils, 4-3.
The Bruins outshot the Devils 13-2 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period, the game ended with the
Bruins beating the Devils, 4-3. The Devils outshot the Bruins 8-6 in the
third period, and 30-28 in the game.
