April 01, 2003 Game 79: Devils Fall to Maple Leafs: 3-2 in Overtime
The New Jersey Devils lost, 3-2, at home to the Toronto Maple
Leafs on Tuesday, April 1, 2003.
Wade Belak gave the Maple Leafs an early 1-0 lead by beating
Martin Brodeur at 2:53 of the first period. Mats Sundin gave the Leafs a
2-0 lead at 5:41 on the power-play.
Jeff Friesen got the Devils on the board at 9:25 of the first
period to cut the Leafs lead to 2-1. Friesen's 22nd goal of the season
was assisted by Scott Niedermayer and Jamie Langenbrunner.
The first period ended with the Maple Leafs leading the Devils,
2-1. The Devils outshot the Leafs, 12-8 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner tied the game, 2-2, at 12:59 of the second
period, on the power-play. Jeff Friesen and Brian Rafalski assisted on
Langenbrunner's 22nd goal of the season.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The
Devils outshot the Leafs, 12-9 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period. The Devils
outshot the Maple Leafs 13-6 in the third period.
Kaberle won the game in overtime for the Maple Leafs.
