April 06, 2003 Game 82: Devils & Sabres Skate to 2-2 Tie
The New Jersey Devils and Sabres skated to a 2-2 tie in Buffalo
on Sunday, April 6, 2003.
Grant Marshall took advantage of a bad bounce off the boards, and
put the puck into an empty net. Marshall's 9th goal of the season was
assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Jeff Friesen.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Sabres, 1-0.
The Devils outshot the Sabres 10-7 in the period.
Ales Kotalik tied the game just 1:11 into the second period,
beating Corey Schwab with a shot from off a rebound. 1:58 later, the
Sabres took a 2-1 lead when Alexei Zhitnik blew the puck past Schwab.
Patrik Elias tied the game at 13:44 of the second period beating
Noronen with a nice shot. Scott Gomez assisted on Elias' 28th goal of
the season.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The
Devils outshot the Sabres, 10-6 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period. The Sabres
outshot the Devils, 13-8 in the period.
The overtime period ended with no goals scored. The Sabres
outshot the Devils 4-2 in the overtime, but the shots were even, 30-30 in the
game.
Scott Stevens, Martin Brodeur, Scott Niedermayer, and Joe
Nieuwendyk were all given the day off and did not make the trip to
Buffalo.
With Scott Stevens out, Brian Rafalski wore the "C" for the
team. Corey Schwab started in net for the Devils with Ari Ahonen on the
bench, backing him up.
