The New Jersey Devils defeated the Boston Bruins, 2-1 at home on
Wednesday, April 9, 2003. The win gives them a 1-0 lead in the first
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Steve Shields at 15:35 of the first
period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Jeff Friesen and Patrik Elias
assisted on Langenbrunner's 1st goal of the playoffs.
Scott Gomez left early in the first period after a mid-ice
collision with teammate Grant Marshall.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins, 1-0.
The Bruins outshot the Devils 10-9 in the period.
Gomez returned to the bench at the start of the second period,
but only took one shift before leaving again - he would not return to the
Jamie Langenbrunner recorded his second goal of the game at 11:38
of the second period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Joe Nieuwendyk
assisted on Langenbrunner's 2nd goal of the playoffs.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins, 2-0.
The Devils outshot the Bruins 12-8 in the period.
Bryan Berard got the Bruins on the board just 3:29 into the third
period, giving Boston hope - but Martin Brodeur and the Devils shut the door
and would give up no more.
The third period ended with the Devils defeating the Bruins, 2-1.
The Bruins outshot the Devils 9-7 in the third period, but were outshot
28-27 in the game.
