April 13, 2003 Round 1 Game 3: Devils Shutout Bruins: 3-0!
The New Jersey Devils shutout the Bruins, 3-0, in Boston on
Sunday, April 13, 2003. It was the 14th career playoff shutout for
Martin Brodeur.
There was no scoring in the third period. The Bruins
outshot the Devils, 7-5 in the period. The Bruins were called for two
penalties (to the Devils none) in the period, but the Devils were unable to
capitalize with the man advantage.
The Devils took a 1-0 lead, early into the second period, when
Scott Stevens took the puck right away a faceoff and blasted it past Jeff
Hackett just 1:11 in. Stevens' 1st goal of the playoffs was assisted by
John Madden.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins, 1-0.
The shots were even, 11-11 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo got his first goal of the playoffs on a breakaway at
12:00 of the third period. Scott Stevens and John Madden assisted on the
goal that gave the Devils a 2-0 lead.
John Madden put the puck into the empty net with 1:06 remaining
in the game, to seal the Devils win. Jay Pandolfo assisted on Madden's
1st goal of the playoffs.
The third period ended with the Devils winning, 3-0. The
Bruins outshot Devils 11-6 in the third period and 29-22 in the game.
