April 15, 2003 Round 1 Game 4: Bruins Crush Devils, 5-1, Extend Series
The New Jersey Devils were crushed by the Bruins, 5-1, in
Boston on Tuesday, April 15, 2003.
Joe Thornton gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with just 13 seconds
remaining in the first period, on the power-play.
The first period ended with the Bruins leading the Devils,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Bruins 14-6 in the period.
Dan Mcgillis gave the Bruins a 2 goal lead at 2:24 of the
second period with a goal on the power-play. He recorded his 2nd
goal of the game with just 2:45 remaining in the second period to give
Boston a 3-0 lead.
The second period ended with the Bruins leading the Devils,
2-0. The Bruins outshot the Devils, 13-6 in the period.
Scott Niedermayer blasted the puck through Jeff Hackett, 1:37
into the third period. Niedermayer's 1st goal of the playoffs was
unassisted.
Martin Lapointe beat Martin Brodeur just 8 seconds later to
give the Bruins a 4-1 lead. After Marty Mcinnis gave Boston a 4 goal
lead less than two minutes later, Martin Brodeur was replaced in net by
Corey Schwab.
The third period ended with the Bruins defeating the Devils,
5-1. The Bruins outshot the Devils 11-4 in the period and 30-25 in
the game.
Ken Daneyko's streak of 166 straight (every playoff game in team
history) playoff games came to an end with this game.
