April 30, 2003 Round 2 Game 4: Devils Beat Lightning: 3-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Lightning, 3-1 in Tampa Bay on
Wednesday, April 30, 2003. The Devils can now close out the series with
a win on Friday at home.
Scott Gomez scored his first goal of the playoffs just 4:52 into
the first period to give the Devils and early 1-0 lead. Brian Gionta
recorded the only assist on the goal.
Jason Cullimore tied the game at 11:30 of the first period with
a shot that beat Martin Brodeur.
Patrik Elias beat Nikolai Khabibulin at 16:33 of the first period
to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Scott Gomez got the only assist on Patrik
Elias's first goal of the playoffs.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Lightning,
2-1. Tampa Bay outshot New Jersey, 7-6 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second period. The Lightning
outshot the Devils 10-8 in the period.
Scott Stevens beat Khabibulin at 13:13 of the third period on the
power-play to give the Devils a 3-1 lead. Joe Nieuwendyk assisted on
Steven's 2nd goal of the playoffs.
The third period ended with the Devils defeating the Lightning,
