May 13, 2003 Round 3 Game 2: Devils Beat Senators, 4-1, Even Series
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Senators, 4-1 in Ottawa on
Tuesday, May 13, 2003. The Devils win evened the Eastern Conference
Finals, 1-1.
Tommy Albelin got the Devils on the board early beating Patrick
Lalime just 4:15 into the first period. Albelin's first goal of the
playoffs was assisted by Brian Gionta and Pascal Rheaume.
Jeff Friesen made it a 2-0 lead at 17:21 of the first period,
blasting the puck through Lalime. Friesen's third goal of the season was
assisted by Joe Nieuwendyk.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Senators, 2-0.
The Senators outshot the Devils 10-8 in the period.
Radek Bonk beat Martin Brodeur 2 seconds after an Ottawa penalty
kill had expired to cut the Devils lead to 2-1 just 2:02 into the second
period.
John Madden recorded his 5th goal of the playoffs at 16:33 of the
second period to increase the Devils lead to 3-1. Jay Pandolfo and Colin
White assisted on Madden's goal.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Senators,
3-1. The Senators outshot the Devils 11-9 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo scored at 14:29 of the third period to give the
Devils a 4-1 lead. Jamie Langenbrunner and Scott Stevens assisted on
Pandolfo's 3rd goal of the playoffs.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Senators, 4-1.
The Senators outshot the Devils 10-5 in the third period and 31-21 in
the game.
