November 07, 2003 Game 12: Devils & Maple Leafs Skate to 1-1 Tie
The New Jersey Devils hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday,
November 7, 2003. With Corey Schwab in net for the Devils for the first
time this season, the teams skated to a 1-1 tie.
There was no scoring in the first period. The Maple Leafs
outshot the Devils, 9-8 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner received credit for a goal when Ed Belfour
kicked the puck into his own net at 14:58 of the second period. Sergei
Brylin and Corey Schwab got assists on Langenbrunner's fifth goal of the
season.
The second period came to a close with the Devils leading the
Leafs, 1-0. The Devils were outshot 9-4 in the period.
Colin White took a bad retaliatory roughing penalty at 14:56 of
the third period, and Gary Roberts capitalized just 22 seconds later, with a
power-play goal.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 1-1. Neither
team was able to put the puck past the opposing goaltender, so the game ended
in a 1-1 tie. The Maple Leafs outshot the Devils 28-22 in the
game.
Scott Stevens did not play, after getting word of a death in the
family, earlier in the day. It is not yet known if he will play in
Ottawa tomorrow. Scott Niedermayer wore the "C" in place of Stevens, and
John Madden wore Niedermayer's "A".
