November 19, 2003 Game 17: Devils Beat Sabres, 4-1. Unbeaten in 10
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Buffalo Sabres, 4-1 on
Wednesday, November 19, 2003. The win extended the Devils unbeaten
streak to 10 games.
Scott Gomez recorded his second goal of the season at 9:40 of the
first period, when he deflected a Scott Stevens shot past Martin Biron.
The first period came to a close with the Devils outshooting the
Sabres, 13-5, and leading them 1-0.
Jay Pandolfo scored 5:11 into the second period to give the
Devils a 2-0 lead. Pandolfo's fifth goal of the season was assisted by
John Madden and Scott Stevens.
Brian Gionta scored his fouth goal of the season unassisted, just
1:45 after Pandolfo's goal, to make it a 3-0 lead.
John Madden capped the Devils scoring in the second period by
putting the puck past Biron at 9:25. Madden's second goal of the season
was assisted by Christian Berglund and Patrik Elias.
Madden's goal led Sabres Coach Lindy Ruff to replace Biron with
Mika Noronen in goal.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Sabres, 4-0.
The Devils outshot the Sabres 12-8 in the period.
Daniel Briere ruined Martin Brodeur's shutout bid at 6:13 of the
third period to cut the Devils lead to three goals.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 4-1. The Sabres
outshot the Devils 9-3 in the third period, but were outshot 28-22 in the
game.
