January 21, 2004 Game 46: Hurricanes Squeak Past Devils, 2-1
The New Jersey Devils lost, 2-1 at home to the Carolina
Hurricanes on Wednesday, January 21, 2004.
Here are a few of my
pictures from the game.
Just 2:03 into the first period, Rob Skrlac earned five more NHL
penalty minutes, by fighting Jesse Boulerice of the Hurricanes.
There was no scoring in the first period, though the Devils
outworked the Hurricanes, outshooting them 8-3.
Josef Vasicek put the puck past Brodeur at 12:26 of the second
period to give Carolina a 1-0 lead.
Just 21 seconds after the Vasicek goal, Jeff Friesen beat Kevin
Weekes to tie the game, 1-1. Friesen's tenth goal of the season was
assisted by Sergei Brylin and Scott Niedermayer.
With just 1:55 remaining in the second period, Jeff O'Neill beat
Brodeur to give the Canes the lead again.
The second period ended with the Hurricanes leading the Devils,
2-1. The Hurricanes outshot the Devils 12-7 in the period.
Neither netminder let a puck past them in the third period, the
game ended with the Canes winning, 2-1. The Hurricanes outshot the
Devils 8-6 in the third period and 23-21 in the game.
The season series is now tied, 1-1. The teams will
meet two more times before the end of the season.
