February 10, 2004 Game 54: Devils Fall to Flyers 4-1
The New Jersey Devils lost 4-1 to the Flyers in Philadelphia on
Tuesday, February 10, 2004. The loss drops the Devils to 7 points behind
the division-leading Flyers, though they still have 3 games in hand.
Simon Gagne beat Martin Brodeur at 14:45 of the first period, on
the power-play to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
The first period ended with the Flyers leading the Devils,
1-0. The Flyers outshot the Devils 12-10 in the period.
Danny Markov took advantage of Colin White screening Martin
Brodeur and blasted the puck past the Devils netminder at 2:52 of the second
period on the power-play to make it a 2-0 Flyers lead.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 12-9 in the second period, but
trailed where it matters, 2-0 at the end of the second.
Michal Handzus beat Brodeur just 14 seconds into the third period
to give the Flyers a commanding 3-0.
3:03 into the third period, Scott Niedermayer blasted the puck
through Flyers goaltender Antero Niittymaki on the power-play to cut the Flyers
lead to 2 goals. Mike Rupp was credited with the only assist on
Niedermayer's ninth goal of the season.
Erik Rassmussen chipped the puck and it deflected off Tommy
Albelin's skate over a sprawling Brodeur at 10:19 of the third period giving
the Flyers a 4-1 lead. Mark Recchi was credited with the goal.
The game ended with the Flyers beating the Devils, 4-1.X
The Devils lead on the season series drops to 2-1-1. The
teams will meet twice more in the regular season.
