April 17, 2004 Round 1 Game 5: Flyers Beat Devils 3-1, Win Series
The New Jersey Devils were defeated 3-1 in Philadelphia by the
Flyers, losing the Eastern Conference Quarter Finals series.
Alexei Zhamnov beat Martin Brodeur at 13:38 of the first period
to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Tony Amonte and Jeremy Roenick assisted
on the goal.
The first period ended with the Flyers leading 1-0 -- the shots
were even, 12-12 in the period.
Scott Niedermayer beat Robert Esche to tie the game, 1-1, at
13:36 of the second period. Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez assisted on
Niedermayer's first goal of the playoffs.
The Devils outshot the Flyer 10-6 in the second period, which
ended with the score tied, 1-1.
Danny Markov beat Martin Brodeur at 14:37 of the third period to
give the Flyers a 2-1 lead. Alexei Zhamnov and Vladimir Malakhov
assisted on the goal.
Sami Kapanen added an empty net goal with 8 seconds remaining in
the series to seal the series win for the Flyers. The Flyers outshot the
Flyer 14-8 in the third period and 40-32 in the game.
