October 26, 2005 Game 9: Lightning Beat Devils 6-3; Brodeur Injured
The New Jersey Devils blew a 3 goal rally, allowing 4 unanswered
goals in a 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday, October 26,
2005.
Just 34 seconds into the first period, Martin St. Louis beat
Martin Brodeur to give the Lightning an early 1-0 lead. Fredrik Modin
beat Brodeur with just 1:40 remaining to increase their lead.
The first period ended with the Lightning leading 2-0 and
outshooting the Devils 16-3.
Sean Brown beat John Grahame 1:57 into the second period to get
the Devils on the board with his first goal of the season. Jamie
Langenbrunner and John Madden assisted on Brown's goal.
Vladimir Malakhov slapped the puck past Grahame at 17:27 to tie
the game, 2-2. Malakhov's second goal of the season was assisted by
Jamie Langenbrunner and Sean Brown.
The shots were even, 9-9 in the period, which ended with the
score tied, 2-2.
Sergei Brylin gave the Devils their first lead of the game just
16 seconds into the third period. Brylin's fifth goal of the season was
assisted by Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez.
The Devils quickly lost their lead when Vaclav Prospal beat
Brodeur on the power-play at 1:24.
A Paul Martin turnover led to Dave Andreychuk scoring to regain
the lead for the Lightning at 5:47.
Martin Brodeur left with an injury (likely knee) at 13:10 of the
third period. Andreychuk took advantage of a Lightning 5 on 3
power-play beating Scott Clemmensen at 13:28. Vincent Lecavalier scored
at 14:31 to make it a 3 goal Lightning lead.
The game ended with the Lightning defeating the Devils,
6-3. The Lightning outshot the Devils 14-11 in the third period and
39-23 in the game.
