November 11, 2005 Game 16: Devils Beat Capitals 4-3 in Brodeur's Return
The New Jersey Devils beat the Capitals, 4-3 in Washington on
Friday, November 11, 2005. Martin Brodeur returned to the Devils lineup
after missing 15 days with a knee injury.
Grant Marshall beat Caps netminder Frederic Cassivi 13:14 into
the first period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Marshall's first goal of
the season was unassisted.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Capitals,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Caps 9-8 in the period.
Matt Bradley tied the game, by beating Martin Brodeur at 15:02 of
the second period.
Just 41 seconds after Bradley's goal, Zach Parise beat Cassivi to
give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Viktor Kozlov and Jamie Langenbrunner
assisted on Parise's third goal of the season.
Brian Gionta increased the Devils lead to two goals, scoring on a
power-play with just 21 seconds remaining in the second period. Grant
Marshall and Scott Gomez assisted on Gionta's tenth goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading Washington, 3-1.
The Devils outshot the Capitals, 16-7 in the period.
Scott Gomez scored at 8:09 of the third period to increase the
Devils lead to 3 goals. Gomez's third goal of the season was assisted by
Sergei Brylin and Grant Marshall.
Jeff Halpern beat Brodeur just 44 seconds after Gomez's goal to
get the Caps back within 2 goals. Alexander Ovechkin scored at 10:35 to
make it a one goal game.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Capitals 4-3.
The Caps outshot the Devils 9-5 in the third period, but were outshot 30-24 in
the game.
