December 03, 2005Game 25: Devils Defeat Wild: 3-2 Shootout Victory
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Minnesota Wild with a 3-2
shootout victory on Saturday, December 3, 2005.
There was no scoring in the first period, in which the shots were
10:24 into the second period, Jay Pandolfo beat Manny Fernandez
to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Sergei Brylin assisted on Pandolfo's
fifth goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Wild, 1-0.
The Wild outshot the Devils 15-10 in the period.
Marian Gaborik beat Martin Brodeur just 36 seconds into the third
period on the power-play to tie the game. Ex-Devil Andrei Zyuzin gave
the Wild a 2-1 lead just 1:43 later.
Viktor Kozlov tied the game with a late goal, beating Fernandez
with just 3:23 left in the third period. Brian Rafalski assisted on
Kozlov's seventh goal of the season.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 2-2. The Wild
outshot the Devils 13-11 in the third period. There were no goals scored
during the overtime period, so the game went to a shootout.
Viktor Kozlov scored the only goal necessary in the shootout,
as the Wild were unable to beat Brodeur.
