December 09, 2005 Game 28: Devils Lose To Avalanche In Shootout 4-3
The New Jersey Devils fell 4-3 to the Colorado Avalanche at home
in a shootout on Friday, December 9, 2005.
Andrew Brunette beat Martin Brodeur on the power-play at 3:31 of
the first period to give Colorado an early 1-0 lead. Joe Sakic scored
at 16:29 to in crease their lead. Andrew Brunette scored another
power-play goal with just 1:19 remaining in the first to cap off a bad period
for New Jersey.
The first period ended with Colorado leading New Jersey, 3-0.
The Avalanche outshot the Devils 15-7 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo put the Devils on the board by beating Colorado
netminder Vitaliy Kolesnik at 5:49 of the second period. Alexander
Mogilny and Colin White assisted on Pandolfo's sixth goal of the season.
Brian Gionta got the Devils back within one goal of Colorado with
a power-play goal just 1:23 after Pandolfo's goal. Scott Gomez and Brian
Rafalski assisted on Gionta's 17th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Avalanche 10-3 in the second period, which
ended with Colorado leading, 3-2.
Scott Gomez made a great deflection to tie the game at 10:09 of
the third period. Richard Matvichuk and Colin White assisted on Gomez's
eighth goal of the season.
&nbps; Regulation time ended with the game tied, 3-3. The Devils
outshot the Avalanche 10-6 in the third period.
Neither team was able to score in the overtime period.
Colorado won the game in the shootout.
