December 21, 2005 Game 34: Islanders Defeat Devils 4-2
The New Jersey Devils lost 4-2 to the Islanders on Long Island
now on Wednesday, December 21, 2005.
Jason Blake beat Martin Brodeur just 2:49 into the first period.
The goal was the only one of the period, in which the Devils outshot the
Islanders 9-8.
Zach Parise threw a backhand past Rick DiPietro at 7:42 of the
second period to tie the game, 1-1. Brian Gionta assisted on Parise's
fifth goal of the season.
Just 22 seconds after Parise's goal, Mike York beat Brodeur to
regain the lead for the Islanders.
The second period ended with the Islanders leading the Devils,
2-1. The shots were even, 9-9 in the period.
Trent Hunter scored 4:40 into the third period on a power-play
to make it a 3-1 Islanders lead.
Paul Martin got the Devils back within one goal of the Islanders
with a power-play goal at 9:52. Alexander Mogilny and Scott Gomez
assisted on Martin's second goal of the season.
Trent Hunter scored again at 14:51 to make it a 4-2 Islanders
lead.
The game ended with the Islanders winning, 4-2. The
Islanders outshot the Devils 14-9 in the third period and 31-27 in the
game.
