December 29, 2005 Game 38: Penguins Beat Devils 6-2
The New Jersey Devils were defeated, 6-2 by the Penguins in
Pittsburgh on Thursday, December 29, 2005.
Ric Jackman beat Scott Clemmensen at 5:42 of the first period on
a power-play to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. Sidney Crosby scored with
just 1:47 remaining in the first period to increase the Pens lead.
The first period ended with the Penguins leading the Devils,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Penguins 11-10 in the period.
Tomas Surovy beat Clemmensen at 6:11 of the second period and
Mark Recchi made it a 4-0 Penguins lead with a goal just 1:44 later.
Scott Gomez got the Devils on the board with a goal at 12:28 of
the second period. Gomez's 10th goal of the season was assisted by
Jamie Langenbrunner and Brian Rafalski.
The second period ended with the Penguins leading the Devils,
4-1. The Devils outshot the Penguins 22-9 in the period.
Scott Gomez beat Marc-Andre Fleury for the second time this game
at 3:13 of the third period to cut the Penguins lead to 2 goals. Zach
Parise and Paul Martin assisted on the goal.
Tomas Surovy was credited with his second goal of the game when
Paul Martin deflected his pass past Clemmensen at 6:05. Sidney Crosby
scored at 14:07 to make it a 6-2 Penguins lead.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 13-6 in the third period (and
46-25 in the game), but were unable to outscore them.
