The New Jersey Devils defeated the Blues, 5-3 in St. Louis
on Tuesday, January 17, 2006.
Brian Gionta beat Blues netminder, Curtis Sanford just 3:24 into
the first period to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Patrik Elias and
Scott Gomez assisted on Gionta's 27th goal of the season.
Gionta added a power-play goal at 11:20 to increase the Devils
lead. Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias assisted on Gionta's 2nd goal
of the game.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Blues, 2-0.
The Devils outshot the Blues 9-8 in the period.
John Madden made it a 3-0 Devils lead with a goal at 8:28 of the
second period. Madden's eighth goal of the season was assisted by Jamie
Langenbrunner and Brian Rafalski.
St. Louis got on the board at 10:35 of the second period when
Dennis Wideman beat Martin Brodeur.
Jay Pandolfo was assessed his first penalty of the season (a hi
stick minor) at 16:24 of the second period.
The Blues outshot the Devils 5-2 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading the Blues 3-1.
Doug Weight beat Martin Brodeur at 4:58 of the third period and
Mike Sillinger tied the game with a goal 1:20 later.
Grant Marshall re-gained the Devils lead with a goal at 11:21.
Marshall's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Patrik Elias and
Jay Pandolfo added an empty net goal with just 10 seconds
remaining to seal the win for the Devils. Jamie Langenbrunner and John
Madden assisted on Pandolfo's eighth goal of the season.
