February 03, 2006 Game 54: Devils Shutout Canes: 3-0
The New Jersey Devils shutout the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 at home
on Friday, February 3, 2006. Scott Stevens was honored with the
retirement of his #4 prior to the game.
The Devils outshot the Hurricanes 7-6 in the first period, which
ended with the game scoreless, 0-0.
Patrik Elias blasted the puck past Hurricane netminder Cam Ward
at 2:18 of the second period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Brian Gionta
and Scott Gomez assisted on Elias' fifth goal of the season.
Zach Parise increased the Devils lead with a goal at 6:39 of the
second period. Parise's eighth goah of the season was assisted by Grant
Marshall and Sergei Brylin.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Hurricanes,
2-0. Hurricanes outshot the Devils 13-10 in the period.
Brian Gionta scored his 30th goal of the season at 8:07 of the
third period. Gionta's goal was assisted by Scott Gomez and David
Hale.
