March 11, 2006 Game 64: Penguins Embarrass Devils 6-3
The New Jersey Devils were thrown a 6-3 beating in Pittsburgh by
the Penguins on Saturday, March 11, 2006. Prior to this game, the
Penguins had only won 3 of their last 24 games.
Sidney Crosby beat Martin Brodeur just 42 seconds into the first
period to give the Penguins an early lead. Ryan Malone made it a 2-0
Penguins lead with a short-handed goal at 3:46.
John Madden with credited with his 11th goal of the season at
10:38 when a shot from Jamie Langenbrunner deflected off Madden into the
Penguins net. Tommy Albelin also assisted on the goal.
Michel Ouellet scored for Pittsburgh just 15 seconds later to put
the Penguins ahead by 2 goals again. Andy Hilbert piled on another goal
for the Pens at 17:46 of the first period.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 11-10 in the first period, but
the Penguins led 4-1.
Just as a Penguins 5 on 3 power-play ended, Sidney Crosby scored
his second goal of the game to make it a 5-1 Penguins lead. Colby
Armstrong sent Brodeur to the bench by scoring the Penguins 6th goal at 5:29 of
the second period.
Erik Rasmussen beat Marc-Andre Fleury just 18 seconds after Scott
Clemmensen took over guard of the Devils net. Rasmussen's fourth goal of
the season was assisted by Paul Martin and Colin White.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 22-10 in the second period, which
ended with the Penguins leading, 6-2.
Jamie Langenbrunner cut the Penguins lead to a mere 3 goals when
he beat Fleury at 12:59 of the third period. Brian Rafalski was credited
with the only assist on Langenbrunner's 15th goal of the season.
