April 02, 2006 Game 75: Devils Rally Late, Defeat Penguins 3-2
The New Jersey Devils rallied late in Pittsburgh to defeat the
Penguins 3-2 in overtime on Sunday, April 2, 2006.
Sidney Crosby beat Martin Brodeur at 18:05 on a power-play to
give the Penguins a 1-0 lead. 1:20 later, Colby Armstrong increased the
Pens lead with an even-strength goal.
The first period ended with the Penguins leading the Devils 2-0.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 13-7 in the period.
Jay Pandolfo beat Marc-Andre Fleury just 23 seconds into the
second period to cut the Penguins lead to 1 goal. Paul Martin and John
Madden assisted on Pandolfo's 10th goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Penguins leading the Devils,
2-1. The Devils outshot the Penguins 18-6 in the period.
Patrik Elias tied the game with a power-play goal with just 20
seconds remaining in regulation time to force overtime. Jamie
Langenbrunner and Brian Rafalski assisted on Elias' 10th goal of the
season.
Brian Gionta blasted the puck through Fleury at 2:22 of the
overtime period to win the game for the Devils. Gionta's 42nd goal of
the season was assisted by Sergei Brylin.
