April 05, 2006 Game 76: Patrik Hat Trick & Devils Beat Penguins 6-4
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-4 at
home on Wednesday, April 5, 2006.
Sidney Crosby got the Penguins on the board early, with a goal
just 27 seconds into the first period.
Patrik Elias tied the game, beating Marc-Andre Fleury with a
power-play goal at 3:18. Scott Gomez and Jamie Langenbrunner assisted
on Elias' 11th goal of the season.
Elias scored again at 7:07 to give New Jersey a 2-1 lead.
Elias' second goal of the game was assisted by Scott Gomez and Brian
Rafalski.
Andy Hilbert tied the game with just 47 seconds remaining in the
period.
The first period ended with the score tied, 2-2. The
Devils outshot the Penguins 12-9 in the period.
Zach Parise increased the Devils lead with a goal that beat
Fleury 2:55 into the second period. Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta
assisted on Parise's 12th goal of the season.
Scott Gomez added a power-play goal at 8:11 to increase the
Devils lead to 2 goals. Gomez's 28th of the season was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Brian Rafalski.
Patrik Elias completed a hat trick at 12:45 of the second period
to give New Jersey a 5-2 lead. Sergei Brylin and Martin Brodeur assisted
on Elias' third goal of the night.
Hilbert scored his second goal of the game on a power-play to get
the Penguins back within 2 goals of the Devils.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Penguins,
5-2. The shots were even, 9-9 in the period.
Brian Rafalski scored a 5 on 3 power-play goal at 5:15 of the
third period to increase the Devils lead to 3 goals. Patrik Elias and
Jamie Langenbrunner assisted on Rafalski's sixth goal of the season.
Jani Rita beat Brodeur at 8:07 of the third period to again cut
the Devils lead to 2 goals.
The game ended with the Devils beating the Pens, 6-4. The
Penguins outsho tthe Devils 11-6 in the third period and 29-27 in the
game.
