April 09, 2006 Game 78: Devils Beat Rangers 3-2, Extend Streak to 7
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Rangers, 3-2 in New Jersey
on Sunday, April 9, 2006. The win extends their winning streak to 7
games.
Ranger dirtbag, Ryan Hollweg slammed Sergei Brylin into the
boards just 1:21 into the game. Brylin was cut badly, and required
numerous stitches, but did return near the 12 minute mark of the first
period.
Sergei Brylin scored a power-play goal at 13:46 of the first
period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Brylin's 14th goal of the season
was assisted by Paul Martin and Zach Parise.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers, 1-0.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 10-9 in the period.
Blair Betts beat Martin Brodeur at 13:54 of the second period to
tie the game, 1-1. Sandis Ozolinsh scored a power-play goal 1:52 later
to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
The second period ended with the Rangers leading the Devils,
2-1. The Rangers outshot the Devils 12-8 in the period.
Scott Gomez scored his 31st goal of the season at 11:33 of the
third period to tie the game, 1-1. Brian Rafalski assisted on the
goal.
Brian Gionta gave the Devils a 3-2 lead, scoring on a power-play
just 1:39 after Gomez's goal. Gionta's 44th goal of the season was
assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Patrik Elias.
