October 06, 2006 Game 1: Devils Beat Hurricanes: 4-0
The New Jersey Devils opened the 2006-2007 season with a 4-0
rout of the Hurricanes in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday, October 6,
2006. The shutout was the 81st of Martin Brodeur's career.
Zach Parise got the Devils on the scoreboard early with a goal
that beat Cam Ward just 26 seconds into the first period. Colin White
and Brian Gionta assisted on Parise's first goal of the season.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored to give the Devils a 2-0 lead at
11:30. Brian Rafalski and Brad Lukowich assisted on Langenbrunner's
first goal of the season.
New captain, Patrik Elias, increased the Devils lead to 3-0 with
a power-play goal at 17:32 of the first. Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta
assisted on Elias' first goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Hurricanes,
3-0. The Devils outshot the Canes, 14-6 in the period.
Zach Parise scored his second goal of the game at 6:01 of the
second period. Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta assisted on the goal.
The Hurricanes outshot the Devils 10-8 in the second period, but
the Devils led 4-0 when the period ended.
There were no goals scored in the third period.
