October 19, 2006Game 7: Devs Rally for Point, Fall 4-3 to Preds in Shootout
The New Jersey Devils rallied late in the third period, to tie
the game with Nashville, but the Predators won 4-3 in a shootout on Thursday,
October 19, 2006.
Ex-Devil Jason Arnott beat Scott Clemmensen just 2:10 into the
first period on a power-play to give Nashville a 1-0 lead.
Brian Gionta tied the game just 1:51 later beating Chris Mason
with a power-play goal. Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez assisted on
Gionta's fifth goal of the season.
Martin Erat beat Clemmensen just 2:14 later - at 6:15 to give
the Predators a 2-1 lead.
The first period ended with the Predators leading the Devils,
2-1. The Predators outshot the Devils 10-4 in the period.
Scott Nichol added to Nashville's lead with a short-handed goal
at 17:02 of the second period.
The Devils outshot the Predators 13-5 in the second period, but
were unable to score - the period ended with Nashville leading 3-1.
Scott Gomez got the Devils within one goal of Nashville, beating
Mason with just 2:07 remaining in the third period. Brian Gionta and
Patrik Elias assisted on Gomez's second goal of the season.
Brian Gionta scored his second goal of the game with just 12
seconds remaining in regulation time to tie the game, 3-3. Patrik Elias
and Brian Rafalski assisted on the goal.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 3-3. The Devils
outshot the Predators 12-2 in the third period.
The Devils had a rare overtime power-play, but neither team
scored, sending the game to a shootout. Martin Erat was the only player
from either team to score, winning the game for Nashville.
