October 24, 2006 Game 9: Devils Fail in Pittsburgh, Lose 2-4
The New Jersey Devils lost 2-4 to the Penguins in Pittsburgh
on Tuesday, October 24, 2006.
Scott Gomez gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat
Marc-Andre Fleury at 7:40 of the first period. Brian Gionta and Brad
Lukowich assisted on Gomez's third goal of the season.
Nils Ekman beat Martin Brodeur at 12:37 to tie the game,
1-1.
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Penguins outshot the Devils 11-9 in the period.
Sidney Crosby beat Brodeur 1:26 into the first period & Jordan
Staal scored at 4:53 to increase the Penguins lead to 3-1.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 9-4 in the second period, which
ended with Pittsburgh leading the Devils 3-1.
Sergei Brylin got the Devils back within 1 goal of the Penguins
when he scored at 8:02 of the third period. Jim Fahey was credited with
the only assist on Brylin's second goal of the season.
Evgeni Malkin scored on Brodeur at 10:41 to give Pittsburgh a 4-2
lead.
The game ended with the Penguins beating the Devils, 4-2.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 9-5 in the third period, but were outshot 25-22
in the game.
