The New Jersey Devils beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 at home
on Tuesday, December 26, 2006. The shutout was Martin Brodeur's fifth
of the season and 85th of his career.
The Devils outshot the Penguins 9-4 in the first period, which
ended with the game scoreless.
Travis Zajac gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat
Marc-Andre Fleury just 1:23 into the second period. Jamie Langenbrunner
and Zach Parise assisted on Zajac's eighth goal of the season.
The Penguins outshot the Devils 9-8 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 1-0.
Jay Pandolfo put a rebound over Fleury at 15:58 of the third
period to give the Devils a 2-0 lead. Sergei Brylin and John Madden
assisted on Pandolfo's fifth goal of the season.
Brian Gionta scored his 100th career goal at 17:58 to seal the
win for the Devils. Gionta's 15th goal of the season was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Paul Martin.
