January 04, 2007 Game 40: Devils Beat Islanders 4-3
The New Jersey Devils beat the New York Islanders 4-3 at home
on Thursday, January 4, 2007. The Devils now lead the season series
2-1.
Zach Parise gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with a goal that beat Rick
DiPietro just 1:57 into the first period. Travis Zajac assisted on
Parise's 15th goal of the season.
Sergei Brylin increased the Devils lead with a goal just 15
seconds after Parise's goal. Jay Pandolfo was credited with the only
assist on Brylin's ninth goal of the season.
Trent Hunter got the Islanders on the board with a goal that beat
Martin Brodeur at 2:57.
Zach Parise scored his second goal of the period at 12:58 to give
New Jersey a 3-1 lead. Parise's 16th goal of the season was assisted by
Jamie Langenbrunner and Travis Zajac.
The Islanders outshot the Devils 12-9 in the first period, but
trailed 1-3 on the scoreboard.
Patrik Elias scored 4:10 into the second period to give the
Devils a 4-1 lead. Elias' 16th goal of the season was assisted by Brian
Gionta.
Andy Hilbert cut the Devils lead to 2 goals at 11:09 of the
second period.
The Devils were outshot 13-7 in the second period, but led 4-2 on
the scoreboard.
Mike Sillinger gave the Islanders comeback hope with a power-play
goal with just 20 seconds remaining in regulation time, but were unable to
score again to tie the game.
The Islanders outshot the Devils 18-10 in the third period and
43-26 in the game.
