The New Jersey Devils and Martin Brodeur Shutout the Canadiens
3-0 in Montreal on Sunday, January 7, 2007. The shutout was number 7 of
the season the 87th of Brodeur's career.
Mike Rupp gave the Devils a 1-0 lead when he beat Cristobal Huet
just 2:21 into the first period. Paul Martin and Brian Rafalski assisted
on Rupp's third goal of the season.
Brian Gionta scored with just 42 seconds remaining in the first
period to give New Jersey a 2-0 lead. Brian Rafalski and Scott Gomez
assisted on Gionta's 18th goal of the season.
The Devils outshot the Habs 16-6 in the period, which ended with
the Devils leading, 2-0.
Neither team scored in the second period, in which the Canadiens
outshot the Devils 11-10.
Brian Gionta scored his second goal of the game at 12:47 of the
third period on a power-play to give the Devils a 3-0 lead. Patrik Elias
and Scott Gomez assisted on Gionta's goal.
